A Higher Impression

Do sunsets contain a higher impression?

I have watched the sunset from many different places, in the most fascinating natural and architectural settings. Yet it is in a small city in Central America where I find the most beautiful sunsets. There, every time I see the fall of our closest star, it leaves a pink and honey-colored trail that fosters a nascent energy within me.  Starting from that moment, something in me can rise again; something in me wishes to rise again.

When such a moment occurs, a point within me lights up.  A new element suddenly enters my life. It touches me and produces a higher vibration.  Something in me opens up to that impression; something inside expands and comes into being that was not there before.

My internal parts begin to vibrate to the rhythm of this new energy.  A different intensity, a certain euphoria takes over those spaces that were previously empty.  Emotions and sensations arise that are born from very deep layers of my being.  A new quality penetrates and permeates all the layers. Until, almost without realizing it, I find myself before a threshold, at a point from which I can hardly return.

Seeing with the Soul

In some way, we have been taught to see with the eyes, but not with the soul.  We recognize that a vision is beautiful but know not how to take the next step. How do we take its energy and incorporate it into our internal world? This is an interval that we might pass by.  It is the first conscious shock in the octave of impressions, giving the potential of starting a new octave, an ascending one.

The First Conscious Shock: Becoming Definite

The path to consciousness itself is an ascending octave.  It must have a specific quality of energy imprinted on it at every step. There is a perception that some kind of assistance will be needed to accomplish that. The desire to be present, by itself, will not be enough. More of ourselves will need to to surrender to that part of us that has made the decision.

At the moment of receiving an impression, we must gather up our internal parts, the different centers, and then cross the threshold, turning our sight inwards to divide our attention. I am watching the sunset, and, at the same time, observing the internal emotional current that arises from consciously viewing the sunset.

With this, a new perception appears. An even higher vibration that somehow puts light where, just before, there was darkness. It gives new understanding, a deep emotional conviction whose intense clarity and transparency illuminate the silence and stillness of self-remembering.  If we pass by or evade this instant, or mix it with internal chatter, the octave will disappear, will deviate. If, on the contrary, we hold the impression within and establish the definite flavor of this moment, we successfully bridge an interval in this ascending octave.

The Second Interval: Discovering a More Real Self

In this moment, there is a relationship between the parts that compose me and a higher force.  What began as a sunset has become the mystical experience of an inner certainty.

However, something in me that is watching very carefully has already seen the forces within that will drag me back down. As I see the pink and orange melt between the different grays of the sky, I also see my certainty melt into the energy of the mechanical. Little by little, I lose the moment. However, if I continue observing, it will not be completely lost.

The suffering, the tension between the fire of my desire to remain present at this moment and the chill of the inevitable fall, produces a silent containment in my entire being.  I can see my true dimension as well as my nothingness, my lack of proper energy and my surrender to that.  At the same time, there is a sacred direction in this octave. The process of defeat creates a shock and at the same time evokes a transformation.

A New Substance

Transformed matter is evanescent and soft. In my inner world there is no longer any resistance, and I am open to receive the influence of higher forces.  The conscious reception of the higher impression has changed me. It calls me to a harmonious dance; it impels me to touch the sacred that inhabits me.

A finer energy establishes itself in me. It sets a precedent for my existence. Not only does this beautiful sunset exist now, I also exist.  What, if not this, moves my soul again and again to here, to now?
