All Love is Divine
Effortlessly
We speak of love in many forms, but perhaps one of the deepest distinctions we make is between human and divine love. At first, they can seem very different. Human love appears personal and selective. It carries tenderness, desire, attachment, joy, disappointment, and loss. Divine love, by contrast, may seem distant and impersonal—something pure and perfect that exists outside of the complications of ordinary human life.
Beyond the apparent differences, I believe there is only one love—Divine. It is what everything is made of. It is what we are made of, down to every particle of our physical bodies. Love is not something added to existence, but the substance of existence itself. It shines through everything and includes every color of the spectrum, even the dark and painful ones. Experiences such as sorrow, depression, and fear may not feel like love, yet they, too, belong to the vast palette of the Divine.
Divine Love is effortlessly unconditional. It does not choose, judge, resist, or demand. Nor does it need to be produced, deserved, or earned. Neither our goodness nor our failures can alter it. It simply is—looking through our eyes, listening through our ears, and touching the world through our hands.
Meister Eckhart wrote:
“The eye through which I see God is the same eye through which God sees me; my eye and God’s eye are one eye, one seeing, one knowing, one love.”
How clearly we perceive, express, and abide in Divine Love depends upon our transparency—how freely Love shines through us. I believe we are transparent by nature, yet our minds can grow cloudy with anxiety, judgment, and craving until we become absorbed in ourselves and lose sight of what is always there.
As the mind becomes quieter, Love reveals itself in simple awareness and direct experience of being alive.
Then all we need “to do” is relax into that Love and just breathe. Effortlessly.
